Playing at Dixie State College

Kara's basketball team this year did really well. As a result, their team was invited to play an exhibition game during halftime of a Dixie State women's basketball game. The girl's were thrilled. Here are some pictures from that game:

Dr Seuss week

If you read this blog last year, you'll remember my post about Dr. Seuss week. The girls have so much fun during this week of school. Each day they got to participate in a different activity honoring Dr. Seuss. Monday they could bring in their favorite Dr. Seuss book to read in class. Tuesday they wore those crazy tall Cat in the Hat style hats (or other crazy hats) along with crazy shoes and socks. Wednesday they could wear inside out or crazy clothes. Thursday was Whoville hair day (see the pictures below of Kara & Brooke with hair similar to Cindy Lou Who's hair was in the movie of How the Grinch Stole Christmas - one of Brooke's favorite movies). Friday was pj day where the kids got to wear pjs, bring in a pillow and a blanket, and a favorite book and have a read-a-thon in the hallway.

Here are some pictures of the crazy hair:

Recent Knitting Projects

I have been knitting as much as I can lately (which isn't as much as I'd like with school and homework and everything else that's going on. But here are a couple of recent projects I've finished:

Here's a cute little sweater I made for my baby neice Kendree for her first birthday. I fell in love with this pattern.

Here are 13 of the hats I made in February for my AmeriCorps service scholarship. They average about 2 hours a piece (depending on if I make a mistake and have to fix it or not). By now I've memorized the pattern so it's been pretty quick work while we're watching tv/movies. These hats are going to the local hospital. Each baby born at this hospital is sent home with a knitted cap. I'm happy to have made a contribution and plan to make many more.

Wow! Time flies!

I can't believe it's been TWO MONTHS since I've updated this! So much has been going on...

In January, Brooke had her tonsils out right after the new year (I'll do another post on this for pictures). Then I started my actual nursing classes. I have never studied harder in my life. I can't believe how much there is to know! But when I think about it, I'm glad there's so much to know because of how much nurses have to do. I'm just glad I've started finally after years of planning and waiting to start.

Also in January and February, Kara & Brooke were playing Jr. Jazz basketball and it was in full swing (there will be another post on this with pics, and at some point I'll have some videos uploaded to view for those out of town relatives who'd like to watch). Between school, practices, and games, the girls stayed super busy.

In February, I started a service scholarship with AmeriCorps (meaning I do the hours of service, then the government gives me scholarship money). 450 hours to do by next February. I'm hoping to get them all done by December so the money can be applied to my tuition in January. So far my service hours have included volunteering at the elementary school, knitting infant hats for the hospital (they send each baby home with a knitted cap!), and my nursing classes count too.

In March, Jeff found out he was accepted to graduate school at USC! He will start his program in May and be done next May. It's a 12 month program and he'll graduate with his Master's of Art in Teaching along with a teaching credential! We're very excited!

So, I guess more posts are to follow throughout the weekend catching up on a few things. Hopefully I don't go on a posting drought again for awhile! :)
